Aire Drive – Hall Bath

Hall bathroom renovation. Replaced floor, toilet, countertop, sinks, faucets, backsplash, and mirrors. New shower curtain and decor. Added a second sink, repainted walls and baseboard. Did not change vanity cabinet, nor tub/shower combo, in order to stay under $5,000 budget for labor and materials.

Before photos of hall bathroom.

Single sink, dated countertop and mirror, and round penny tile floor with impossible-to-keep-clean grout. Boring, builder-basic design. Primary goals for the redesign: replace floor and countertop. Added a second sink because this is the main bathroom for kids to share and want to have space for two to brush teeth at the same time before school. To minimize costs, kept the existing vanity and light fixture, and did not touch the tub/shower combo, as it will be redone after kids are grown. Replaced toilet, countertop, sinks, faucets, flooring, mirror, shower curtain, artwork, and added handmade subway tile backsplash from floor to 4′ high from door frame, around the vanity, and behind the toilet for easier cleanup on a large area of the room. Adjustable vanity mirrors can be angled according to the needs of different height kids and adults, and the original medicine cabinet was kept for extra storage.

This is what happens when penny tile is installed poorly and the grout is not sealed. Forever looking filthy. No thanks. Penny tiles are beautiful and classic, but must be installed carefully to avoid misaligned mosaic sheets, cement or grout that is not cleaned off the tiles, and above all: seal your grout, or use grout with built-in sealer to prevent stains.
